Governor Wavinya Ndeti Accelerates Water Security and Livelihoods as Kwa Kiloo Dam Transforms Over 1,300 Households in Kangundo West.

Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to expanding access to clean water, promoting food security, and creating sustainable economic opportunities after inspecting the recently desilted Kwa Kiloo Dam in Mukunike Sub location, Kangundo West Ward. The revitalized dam is now serving as a dependable source of water for more than 1,300 households across seven villages, significantly easing access to water for domestic use while supporting agriculture and other income generating activities. To maximize the project’s impact, Governor Wavinya announced that the County Government will undertake water reticulation to ensure more residents receive clean and reliable water directly to their communities. The initiative forms part of the county’s broader strategy to improve water access and enhance the quality of life for Machakos residents. The Governor also highlighted the growing economic potential of the dam following the stocking of more than 10,000 fish fingerlings. The aquaculture initiative is creating new livelihood opportunities, particularly for young people, with several already actively engaging in fishing as a source of income. Beyond fish farming, the availability of reliable water is enabling residents to cultivate a variety of crops throughout the year, boosting agricultural productivity, strengthening household food security, and increasing incomes. The integrated approach underscores the County Government’s commitment to making water infrastructure a catalyst for socio economic transformation.Governor Wavinya reiterated that investments in water resources remain central to her administration’s development agenda, noting that projects such as the Kwa Kiloo Dam are delivering lasting benefits by improving livelihoods, empowering communities, and advancing her vision of “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni.”The Kwa Kiloo Dam stands as another testament to Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s continued drive to deliver practical, people centred development projects that enhance resilience, create economic opportunities, and improve the well-being of residents across Machakos County.
