Machakos County is taking bold steps toward deepening transparency, accountability and citizen engagement following a high level meeting between the county leadership and Mzalendo Trust, a key player in promoting democratic governance in Kenya.
Led by Wavinya Ndeti, the Machakos County Government hosted Mzalendo Trust for a strategic engagement aimed at advancing the principles of the Open Government Partnership (OGP). The discussions underscored the county’s commitment to building a governance system that is inclusive, participatory, and responsive to the needs of its people.
Governor Ndeti emphasized the importance of placing citizens at the center of decision-making processes, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved when communities are actively involved. “Our goal is to ensure that every resident of Machakos has a voice and that government processes remain open, transparent, and accountable,” she stated.
The engagement focused on strengthening mechanisms for citizen participation, enhancing access to public information, and reinforcing accountability frameworks within county institutions. Special attention was given to the inclusion of youth, women, and persons with disabilities, recognizing their critical role in shaping an equitable society.
A key highlight of the discussions was the role of technology in transforming service delivery. Both parties explored innovative digital solutions that can bridge the gap between government and citizens, improve efficiency, and bring essential services closer to communities across Machakos County.
Mzalendo Trust lauded the county government’s proactive approach and reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote open governance and civic engagement.
The meeting marks a significant step in strengthening partnerships that aim to improve public service delivery while fostering trust between the government and its citizens. Under Governor Ndeti’s leadership, Machakos County continues to position itself as a model for inclusive, transparent and accountable governance in Kenya.
