Governor Wavinya Ndeti Champions Strong Health Governance Through Hospital Boards Induction

H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti reaffirmed her administration’s firm commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in Machakos County as the Machakos County Referral Hospital Management Board, together with all Level 4 Hospital Management Boards, undertook a week-long induction programme aimed at enhancing health sector governance.

The induction programme was a key pillar of Governor Ndeti’s broader health reform agenda, designed to ensure that hospital boards are well-equipped to effectively discharge their oversight and governance roles. Through the training, board members were empowered with critical skills to promote accountability, improve management practices, and enhance strategic oversight across public health facilities in the county.

Speaking through the initiative, Governor Ndeti emphasized that strong and knowledgeable management boards were essential to the delivery of quality, responsive, and people-centred healthcare services. She noted that effective governance structures play a central role in improving service delivery, prudent use of resources, and restoring public confidence in the health system.

The induction further sought to align hospital boards with the county’s health priorities, enabling them to work closely with the Department of Health in addressing emerging challenges and improving patient outcomes. Participants were taken through key governance frameworks, leadership responsibilities, and best practices in health facility management.

Governor Ndeti remained steadfast in supporting initiatives that empower the Department of Health and its stakeholders, reaffirming her resolve to ensure that every resident of Machakos County accessed efficient, reliable, and high-quality healthcare services. Under her leadership, the county government continued to prioritize capacity building, institutional strengthening, and accountability as critical drivers of a robust and sustainable health system.
