Governor Wavinya Ndeti Highlights Tenfold Surge in Maize Production During State of the County Address

Wavinya Ndeti delivered a bold and transformative State of the County Address at the County Assembly chambers, where she outlined remarkable milestones achieved under her administration, placing particular emphasis on the agricultural sector.

Addressing Members of the County Assembly and invited guests, Governor Wavinya reported that her government had overseen a dramatic increase in maize production, describing it as one of the most defining achievements of her tenure. She stated that maize harvests had risen from 23,000 metric tons to an impressive 253,000 metric tons a tenfold increase that she said reflected deliberate policy interventions, farmer support programs, and strategic investment in agriculture.

The Governor told the Assembly that the surge in production was not merely a statistic but a direct reflection of improved livelihoods across the county. She noted that, for the first time in years, granaries were full, symbolizing food security and economic empowerment for local farmers.

Governor Wavinya emphasized that the achievement embodied her administration’s guiding philosophy of “chakula mezani, pesa mfukoni,” underscoring that increased agricultural output translated to both food on the table and income in the pockets of residents. She explained that her government had prioritized access to certified seeds, subsidized fertilizers, extension services, and climate-smart farming techniques to boost productivity.

In her address, she reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening the agricultural value chain, adding that sustainable food production remained central to her broader economic transformation agenda. She said the county would continue investing in irrigation, mechanization, and market access to ensure farmers benefited fully from their hard work.
The Governor’s remarks were received with applause from members of the Assembly, as she positioned agriculture as a cornerstone of her administration’s development blueprint and a clear testament to what focused leadership could achieve.

The State of the County Address painted a picture of a county steadily advancing toward food sufficiency and economic resilience under Governor Wavinya’s stewardship.
