Coffee Prices Rise from KSh 90 to KSh 120 as Governor Wavinya Ndeti Revives Machakos’ Coffee Sector

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti delivered a firm and results-oriented State of the County Address at the Assembly Chambers, highlighting significant gains in the county’s coffee sector and reaffirming her administration’s commitment to uplifting farmers.

In her address, Governor Ndeti placed special focus on coffee farmers in the rich agricultural belts of Matungulu, Kathiani, and Mwala. She reminded them of the promise she had made upon assuming office in 2022 to restore the lost glory of coffee farming and ensure farmers received fair returns for their hard work.

The Governor observed that for years, coffee farmers had labored tirelessly on their farms only to earn meagre returns, while other players in the value chain benefited disproportionately. She noted that correcting this imbalance had been one of her administration’s key priorities.

Presenting measurable progress, Governor Ndeti reported that when she took office in 2022, a kilogram of coffee cherry was fetching an average of KSh 90. Through targeted reforms, strengthened cooperative societies, and strategic interventions within the coffee value chain, the price had increased significantly. By 2025, farmers were earning an average of KSh 120 per kilogram.

She emphasized that the improvement was not by chance, but the result of deliberate policy decisions aimed at empowering farmers, promoting transparency, and eliminating exploitative practices. The Governor described the price increase as a clear indicator that her government’s agricultural reforms were delivering tangible benefits to the people.

Reaffirming her administration’s commitment, Governor Ndeti assured farmers that agriculture would remain a cornerstone of Machakos County’s economic transformation. She pledged continued support to stabilize prices, enhance production, and safeguard farmers’ interests.

The Governor concluded by expressing confidence that the renewed momentum in the coffee sector would translate into improved livelihoods for thousands of families across Machakos County.
