Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to transforming road infrastructure, describing it as a key pillar in enhancing connectivity, mobility, and economic growth across the county.
Speaking on the progress of the Katangi – Kinyaata – Kikesa – Kithimani Road, the governor expressed satisfaction with the steady strides made in upgrading the critical route to bitumen standards—an initiative expected to significantly ease transport challenges in the region.
Phase One of the project, stretching from Katangi to Malava, has already been completed. According to Governor Ndeti, this phase incorporated essential safety features including the installation of road bumps, clear road markings, proper signage, kerbs, and drainage systems. These improvements are aimed at ensuring the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and users of non-motorised transport.
Despite recent heavy rains that temporarily slowed down operations, the contractor has since resumed work and is making notable progress. Approximately seven kilometres of the road have already undergone opening and site clearance, paving the way for the laying of bitumen in the coming months.
Governor Ndeti emphasized that the project is part of a broader strategy by her administration to expand tarmac road networks across Yatta Sub-County. She noted that several sections of the road have already been improved to motorable standards, making it easier for residents to access markets, schools, and essential services.
“This project reflects our unwavering commitment to improving the livelihoods of our people. By enhancing road connectivity, we are not only easing movement but also unlocking economic opportunities for local communities,” she stated.
The road upgrade is expected to spur trade, reduce travel time, and improve access to remote areas, further positioning Machakos County as a hub of development under Governor Ndeti’s leadership.
