Governor Wavinya Ndeti has intensified Machakos County’s commitment to sustainable agriculture by stocking Kwa Nduu Dam in Kavilinguni Sub location with 10,000 additional fish fingerlings, further strengthening the county’s aquaculture programme and expanding opportunities for food security and economic empowerment.
The latest stocking builds on an earlier initiative at the dam, where previously introduced fish fingerlings are already supporting fishing activities and fish farming by local residents. The additional fingerlings are expected to significantly increase fish production, creating greater income generating opportunities for families through fish sales while improving access to affordable and nutritious food.
Speaking during the exercise, Governor Wavinya reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to investing in innovative agricultural interventions that enhance household resilience, diversify livelihoods, and unlock the economic potential of rural communities.
She noted that aquaculture is emerging as a key pillar in strengthening food security across Machakos County by increasing local food production, improving household nutrition, and creating sustainable sources of income for residents.
The initiative reflects Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s unwavering commitment to transforming agriculture through practical, community driven solutions that uplift livelihoods and build resilient communities. It also advances her development agenda of “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni,” which seeks to promote sustainable agriculture, strengthen household incomes, and improve the quality of life for the people of Machakos County.
