Mbooni Constituency MP Hon. Erustus Kivasu Nzioka is facing mounting pressure following explosive allegations of corruption and mismanagement involving millions of shillings claims that have been publicly raised by former Mbooni MP Hon. Kisoi Munyao. Yet, days after the accusations went public, the legislator’s continued silence is only deepening suspicion and public outrage.
At the centre of the storm are allegations that huge sums of public money were squandered on stalled and non-functional projects, including four boreholes said to be empty despite reported full funding. The claims, disclosed openly by Hon. Munyao, have sparked widespread debate across Mbooni, with residents demanding answers, accountability, and transparency.
What has unsettled constituents most is not only the gravity of the accusations, but the conspicuous absence of a response from the sitting MP. As questions multiply, many are now asking: Why is Hon. Kivasu silent? Is the silence strategic or is it an admission that there is truth to the allegations?
Political analysts warn that in matters touching on public funds, silence is never neutral. “When allegations of corruption are raised publicly and supported by specifics, the accused public officer has a duty to respond promptly and clearly,” said a governance expert familiar with constituency oversight. “Failure to do so creates a vacuum that is quickly filled by suspicion.”
Residents say the boreholes issue is particularly painful, coming at a time when water scarcity continues to afflict large parts of the constituency. “How do you explain millions spent on boreholes that have no water?” asked a community leader. “This is not politics this is about our lives.”
Hon. Kisoi Munyao has stood by his claims, insisting that the people of Mbooni deserve a full account of how their money was used. His remarks have emboldened calls for independent investigations by relevant oversight bodies, including the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
As pressure mounts, the clock is ticking for Hon. Kivasu. His silence, once seen as temporary, is now being interpreted as defiance or worse, confirmation. In the court of public opinion, unanswered questions are already delivering a harsh verdict.
Until the MP breaks his silence and addresses the allegations head-on, the siege will only tighten, and the shadow over his leadership will continue to grow.
