Kitui County Commissioner Erustus Mbui has announced a series of urgent security measures following the brutal killing of seven people by armed bandits in Kwa Kamari, Tseikuru, in Mulangoni Village, Mwingi North.
Speaking to the media from his office, the County Commissioner condemned the attack, which is believed to have been carried out by heavily armed bandits suspected to be pastoralists. He described the incident as heinous and assured residents that the government has moved swiftly to restore order and guarantee their safety.
Mbui revealed that officers from the elite General Service Unit (GSU) have already been deployed to the affected area to stabilize the situation and pursue those responsible for the killings. He noted that the presence of the specialized unit is aimed at calming tensions and preventing further violence.
In a decisive directive, the County Commissioner ordered all individuals currently within the Mwingi North Game Reserve to vacate immediately and relocate to safer areas. He emphasized that the reserve has become a security concern and that clearing it will aid ongoing operations to track down the attackers.
Mbui further called on members of the public to cooperate fully with security agencies by providing any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators. He assured residents that anyone found culpable will be apprehended and arraigned in court to face the full force of the law.
The administrator reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain calm but vigilant as security forces intensify operations in the region.
The Kwa Kamari attack has sparked fear and outrage among residents of Mwingi North, with leaders and locals alike calling for sustained security interventions to end recurring banditry in the area.
