Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has condemned a brutal attack in Kwa Kamari, Mwingi North, where seven people were killed by suspected militia on April 25, 2026.
The attackers raided the trading centre in broad daylight, killing civilians, injuring others, and burning shops, a petrol station, and a motorbike. They also vandalized the local police station.
Malombe termed the incident “heinous and unacceptable,” linking it to earlier farmer-herder tensions, and called on the National Government to urgently arrest those responsible.
He criticized delays in deploying officers to fully built police stations, including Kwa Kamari, insisting the government must act immediately to secure the volatile Kitui Tana River border.
Residents have been urged to remain calm as relief efforts continue for victims and displaced families.
