The first edition of the Kitui Governors Cup is set to reach its climax on August 21,22,23, bringing together 16 teams drawn from across Kitui County, with two teams representing each sub-county.
Kitui County Minister for Sports, Youth, Culture, Gender and ICT, Madam Phoebe Mutemi, said the tournament is aimed at nurturing sporting talent, promoting youth participation and strengthening grassroots football in partnership with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

Mutemi said the competition provides a platform for young footballers to showcase their abilities while creating opportunities for them to pursue careers in sport. She also noted that the tournament is contributing to the growth of the local economy by attracting players, fans and other stakeholders to different venues.
The winning men’s team will take home KSh500,000, while the women’s champions will receive KSh300,000, alongside other prizes for outstanding teams and players.
The finals are expected to cap a successful inaugural tournament and lay the foundation for an even bigger Kitui Governors Cup in the coming years.
