Kitui MCAs Vow to Impeach Embattled Speaker Kelvin Kinengo Katisya

A political storm is brewing in Kitui County as Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) rally behind an impeachment motion against Speaker Kelvin Kinengo Katisya. The MCAs accuse Katisya of greed, abuse of office, and being a major stumbling block to the county’s development agenda.

The push for impeachment, which has been gaining momentum, is fueled by claims that Speaker Katisya has prioritized personal interests over the welfare of Kitui residents. According to the MCAs, his leadership has been marred by high-handedness, corruption, and blatant disregard for the county’s progress.

“We can no longer sit back and watch as one man derails the dreams and aspirations of the people of Kitui. Speaker Katisya has become an obstacle to development, and we are determined to remove him from office,” MCAs stated during a public event

The speaker, who was once seen as a promising leader, is now facing widespread criticism from the very leaders who initially supported him. The MCAs argue that his tenure has been characterized by power struggles, misuse of county resources, and a lack of transparency in managing assembly affairs.

Sources within the assembly indicate that a majority of MCAs have already signed the impeachment motion, setting the stage for a fierce political battle. The motion cites gross misconduct, abuse of power, and failure to provide effective leadership as key reasons for his removal.

According to insiders, tensions between Speaker Katisya and other county leaders have been escalating in recent months, with some accusing him of frustrating crucial county projects and blocking necessary legislation aimed at improving service delivery.

As the county assembly prepares for the crucial vote, one thing remains certain: Kitui’s political landscape is set for a major shake-up. Whether Speaker Katisya will survive the looming impeachment or be forced to step aside is a question that will be answered in the coming days.
