More than 150,000 residents of Machakos Township and its surrounding areas are set to benefit from improved sanitation services as the Machakos Sewerage Project approaches completion.
H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti inspected the landmark infrastructure project, which has reached 86.5 percent completion. The project comprises 65 kilometres of sewer lines and a modern wastewater treatment plant with a daily treatment capacity of 6,500 cubic metres, marking a major milestone in the county’s efforts to enhance public health and urban development.
Once completed, the project will provide reliable sewerage services to residents of Muvuti/Kiima Kimwe, Kimutwa, Mumbuni North, Katheka Kai, Mua, Mutituni, and neighbouring areas. The improved sanitation infrastructure is expected to significantly reduce health risks associated with inadequate waste management, promote environmental conservation, and elevate the quality of life for thousands of households.
Speaking during the inspection tour, Governor Wavinya reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to investing in sustainable infrastructure that directly improves the wellbeing of residents and supports the county’s long-term development agenda.
The Governor also lauded the Athi Water Works Development Agency for its unwavering partnership and dedication in implementing the transformative project, noting that the investment will play a critical role in supporting Machakos’ growing urban population and creating a cleaner, healthier, and more liveable town.
