Long-serving Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu has expressed his interest in vying for the Kitui County gubernatorial seat in 2027, citing his vast experience in leadership, development planning, and budget expertise.
Speaking during a meeting with professionals from Mwingi West constituency, Dr. Mulu outlined his vision for Kitui County, emphasizing the need for effective resource management and people-centered development. He noted that his track record over the past 13 years as MP positions him as a credible candidate ready to elevate Kitui to national prominence.
“I have been in politics for 17 years, 13 of those serving Kitui Central. I have balanced a budget of over Ksh100 million in bursaries and development projects. I believe it is now time to expand that service to the entire county,” said Mulu.
Dr. Mulu said his desire to run for governor is driven by a deep commitment to serve the people of Kitui and transform the region’s vast potential into tangible progress. He described Kitui as a county rich in natural and human resources but lacking in proper utilization and planning.
“Kitui is a wealthy county. Given a chance, I have plans to unleash that richness. My goal is to see Kitui ranked among the top seven counties in the country in terms of development and service delivery,” he stated.
As a seasoned economist and a specialist in budgeting, Dr. Mulu believes he holds the technical knowledge and political experience required to lead the county into a new era of growth and prosperity.
During the meeting, he called upon the Mwingi West professionals and Kitui residents at large to support his bid when the time comes.
“I am humbly asking for your support. With your help, I believe we can make Kitui great. I will be vying on the Wiper Democratic Movement a patriotic front that has always stood with the people of this region,” he affirmed.
The meeting marked the beginning of what appears to be a strategic build-up towards his 2027 campaign, with Mulu promising inclusive leadership and accountability if entrusted with the county’s top job.
