Makali Mulu Leads Kitui Gubernatorial Race as Undecided Voters Dominate Mizani Africa Poll

A new opinion poll released by Mizani Africa has placed Hon. Dr. Makali Mulu at the forefront of the Kitui gubernatorial race, with 27.3% of respondents indicating they would vote for him if elections were held today.

The poll, conducted across Kitui County, sought to determine voter preferences ahead of the next gubernatorial election. The results show a competitive political landscape, with a significant portion of the electorate 44.2% still undecided, highlighting the fluidity of the race.

Former Governor Charity Ngilu emerged second with 10.8%, while Hon. Enoch Wambua, the current Kitui Senator, garnered 7.2%. Other candidates featured in the poll include Hon. Nicholas Mulila at 4.3%, Dr. Irene Kasalu at 3.2%, Hon. Jonathan Mueke at 1.0%, and Hon. Penina Malonza with 0.5%. The remaining 1.5% went to other unspecified aspirants.

The poll paints a picture of a race still in its formative stages, with nearly half of voters yet to make up their minds. Analysts believe that the eventual winner will be the candidate who effectively connects with the undecided voter bloc and presents a clear, people-driven agenda for Kitui County.

As the political tempo gradually builds toward the next general election, the results reflect a growing interest in leadership renewal and effective governance, especially on matters of development, health, education, and infrastructure.

Mizani Africa, a reputable research and polling firm, conducted the survey in July 2025, and it serves as a key indicator of current voter sentiment and political alignment within the county.

The spotlight now shifts to how each of the candidates will respond to the findings, with intensified outreach expected as the race takes shape in the coming months.
