Two men have been sentenced to death after being found guilty of robbery with violence in Meru County.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) confirmed that Douglas Muriithi and Antony Mugendi were convicted over a brutal attack that occurred on September 6, 2024, at around 11:40pm in Maua Location, Igembe South Sub County.
According to court proceedings, the duo, armed with pangas, metal rods, and timber frames, accosted a woman and robbed her of cash and goods. The stolen items included Ksh5,700 in cash, 87 kilogrammes of sugar valued at Ksh13,050, and 17 kilogrammes of onions worth Ksh850 bringing the total value of the stolen property to Ksh19,600.
The court also heard that the victim sustained injuries during the violent robbery.
In its ruling, the court determined that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. The two accused were consequently convicted and handed the death sentence.
The case was successfully prosecuted by Kelvin Gitonga, as confirmed by the DPP.
