Simon Mutunga Nding’o and Samuel Kathinuku have retained their positions at the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kitui Branch after being overwhelmingly re-elected for a second term as Branch Secretary and Branch Chairman respectively.
Speaking to the media after the elections, Mutunga thanked union members for renewing their mandate, terming the outcome as a clear show of confidence in his leadership. He assured teachers that his second term would focus on effective service delivery, strong representation, and safeguarding the welfare of educators across Kitui County.
Mutunga said the renewed mandate had given him more strength to continue advocating for teachers’ rights and to build on the gains achieved during his first term, adding that accountability and unity within the union would remain a top priority.
During the event, KNUT National Secretary General Mr. Collins Oyuu congratulated the national government under the leadership of President William Ruto for the recent employment of 100,000 teachers, describing it as a timely intervention for the education sector.
Mr. Oyuu also revealed that Kitui County is set to benefit from the hardship allowance, noting that the union had consistently pushed for recognition of the difficult working conditions faced by teachers in the region.
The decisive re-election of Mutunga and Kathinuku underscores continued confidence by teachers in the Kitui Branch leadership as KNUT intensifies its advocacy for better terms, staffing, and improved working conditions for educators.
