Tensions are rising in Kitui South after Ikanga-Kyatune MCA, Cyrus Musyoka, popularly known as Sonko, publicly accused area MP Rachael Kaki Nyamai of slowing down development projects in the ward.
Speaking during a charged public gathering, Sonko did not mince his words, alleging that a lack of cooperation and support from the constituency leadership has significantly hindered progress in Ikanga-Kyatune.
“I want to say this without fear our development has been dragging because of the leadership at the constituency level,” Sonko declared, drawing mixed reactions from the crowd. “We cannot continue lagging behind while other areas move forward. The people of Ikanga-Kyatune deserve better.”
The outspoken MCA claimed that several key projects meant to uplift the livelihoods of residents have either stalled or failed to take off due to what he termed as “unnecessary bottlenecks” and lack of political goodwill. He urged leaders to prioritize service delivery over personal or political differences.
Sonko further called on residents to remain vigilant and hold their leaders accountable, emphasizing that leadership positions are meant to serve the people and not individual interests.
Efforts to reach Rachael Kaki Nyamai for comment were unsuccessful by the time of publication.
The unfolding political exchanges signal growing friction among local leaders, setting the stage for heightened political activity as the region edges closer to the next election cycle.
