PS Jonathan Mueke Leads Sensitization Drive on NYOTA Program in Kitui, Urges Youth to Apply in Large Numbers

Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Jonathan Mueke, today led a major sensitization forum on the NYOTA Program at the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) in Kitui County, where he passionately urged the youth to turn up in large numbers and apply for the life-changing government empowerment initiative.

Speaking during the event, PS Mueke said the NYOTA Program is a key government intervention aimed at empowering young Kenyans through direct financial support to help them start income-generating activities and become self-reliant.

“The government is committed to transforming the lives of young people across the country. Through the NYOTA Program, we are giving our youth hope and opportunity. Each successful applicant will receive KSh 50,000, which is free and non-refundable, to help them start their own ventures,” said Mueke.

He disclosed that 2,800 youth from Kitui County will benefit from the program, noting that this is part of the larger national rollout that will see the government spend KSh 500 billion to support youth empowerment across the country.

The PS encouraged the youth to take full advantage of the opportunity, emphasizing that the funds are meant to create sustainable self-employment and reduce the rising levels of youth unemployment.

“We want to see every young person in Kitui stand on their own feet, create jobs, and contribute to our economy. This program is designed to open doors for innovation and growth among our young people,” he added.

The event was graced by the Kitui County Commissioner kipchumba Rutto , Deputy County Commissioners (DCCs), Assistant County Commissioners (ACCs), chiefs, and assistant chiefs officers from kitui county government, who all lauded the government’s effort in empowering the youth and pledged to assist in mobilizing applicants at the grassroots level.

The NYOTA Program continues to gain traction nationwide as one of the government’s most ambitious youth empowerment projects, aimed at unlocking Kenya’s economic potential through inclusive growth and entrepreneurship.
