National Assembly Speaker Hon. (Dr.) Moses Masika Wetang’ula has convened Members of Parliament in Mombasa for the third retreat of the 13th Parliament, a strategic forum aimed at deepening collaboration and sharpening the institution’s oversight and legislative role.
The high-level retreat has brought together Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) Commissioners, committee leaders, Woman Representatives, members of the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA), and the influential Budget Committee. According to Speaker Wetang’ula, the gathering is designed to build synergy across various arms of House leadership to ensure Parliament delivers effectively on its constitutional mandate.
“This retreat is not just a routine meeting, but a platform for us to reflect on our responsibilities, align our priorities, and strengthen the collective capacity of the National Assembly to serve Kenyans,” Wetang’ula emphasized.
Key deliberations are expected to focus on strengthening committee oversight, streamlining legislative processes, and enhancing inclusivity by empowering women leaders within Parliament. The involvement of the Budget Committee further underlines the critical role of resource allocation in ensuring development priorities meet citizens’ needs.
By bringing together diverse leadership under one roof, the Speaker seeks to foster unity of purpose while equipping legislators with a renewed sense of direction as the 13th Parliament moves into its next phase of work.
The Mombasa retreat follows two previous sessions that laid the foundation for stronger collaboration among House leadership, signaling a continued commitment to accountability, inclusivity, and effective governance.
