St. John Paul II Vocational Institute Holds 3rd Graduation as Bishop Mwongela Urges Integrity, Discipline and Equal Opportunities

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui, Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela, has urged graduates to embrace discipline, integrity, and hard work as they transition into the next phase of their lives.

Speaking during the 3rd graduation ceremony of St. John Paul II Vocational Training Institute in Kitui Town, Bishop Mwongela congratulated the 98 graduates for their achievement, saying that education remains the strongest tool for transforming lives and building society.

“You have now started a new chapter in life. Let integrity guide you in everything you do, whether in school, at work, or in society,” Bishop Mwongela said. “This is the rainy season, but it’s education that will truly save you and secure your future.”

The Bishop also appealed to parents to take care of their children during the long school holidays and to continue guiding them to make responsible choices. He particularly warned young people against engaging in drug and substance abuse, urging them to use their time wisely.

“To our children, take care of yourselves and avoid bad company. Drugs and irresponsible behavior can destroy your future,” he cautioned.

Addressing the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, Bishop Mwongela called for honesty and fairness, urging all candidates, teachers, and supervisors to uphold integrity throughout the process.

On his part, Mr. Mutua, the Institute’s Manager, commended the graduates for their dedication and commitment, revealing that 98 students had successfully completed their studies in various technical and vocational training courses, including automotive engineering, plumbing, and other TVET programs.

Mr. Mutua further appealed to the government, through the Ministry of Education, to ensure fair and equal access to opportunities such as internships, attachments, and HELB loans across all institutions of higher learning.

“All learning institutions, whether large or small, deserve equal consideration when it comes to government funding and opportunities for our trainees,” he said.

The colorful event brought together parents, clergy, government officials, and education stakeholders, who lauded the institution for its continued role in empowering the youth with practical skills for self-reliance and national development.
