Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. is intensifying efforts to transform the county’s infrastructure through strategic partnerships, with the latest move involving a high-level engagement with the National Youth Service (NYS).
On Wednesday, Governor Mutula met with NYS Commandant General James Tembur at the NYS Headquarters in Nairobi to explore a government-to-government collaboration aimed at supporting infrastructure development in Makueni County.
The proposed partnership seeks to leverage NYS’s technical expertise in road, building, and dam construction, borehole drilling, machine maintenance, and affordable equipment hire—services the institution has long been recognized for.
“We are keen on tapping into NYS’s capabilities to deliver high-quality infrastructure projects at significantly reduced costs,” said Governor Mutula. “This collaboration will help accelerate our county’s development agenda while ensuring prudent use of public resources.”
Accompanying the Governor during the discussions were County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) for Finance, Damaris Kavoi, and Transport, Engineer Peter Mumo. Also present was NYS Mechanical and Transport Branch Commanding Officer, Andrew Ekuss, among other senior officials.
If successful, the partnership could mark a major turning point in the county’s efforts to expand critical infrastructure, including roads, water systems, and public buildings, while also empowering youth through skill-based engagement.
Governor Mutula, often referred to as the “Super Governor” for his transformative leadership, continues to position Makueni as a model county through innovation, partnerships, and inclusive development strategies.
