Tragedy at Mayee B Dam: Body of 17-Year-Old Retrieved in Masongaleni Ward

A somber mood has engulfed residents of Kiange village in Masongaleni Ward, Makueni County, following the recovery of the body of a 17-year-old boy from Mayee B Dam.

According to officials from the Kenya Red Cross Society Makueni Branch, the tragic incident occurred when the young man, accompanied by his friends, went to fetch water from the dam. It is reported that the teenager slipped and drowned during the exercise.

Rescue efforts were promptly initiated, and after several hours of searching, the body was retrieved by local divers supported by the Kenya Red Cross team.

“The incident happened in the presence of his friends. Unfortunately, he drowned while trying to fetch water,” confirmed a representative from the Kenya Red Cross Makueni Branch.

The body was transported to Kambu Mortuary as police launched investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Area residents have expressed concern over the safety of local water sources, especially during the dry season when dams become the main source of water for many households.

Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution around water bodies and to supervise young people when they go to fetch water.
