Wavinya Ndeti has taken a major step in accelerating urban growth and structured development across Machakos County after receiving Ad Hoc Committee reports recommending the conferment of municipal status to four key town clusters.
The reports, presented at the Governor’s office, propose the elevation of Masii–Mwala, Kathiani–Mitaboni, Kithyoko–Kivaa–Masinga–Ekalakala, and Matuu–Yatta into municipalities — a move poised to redefine urban planning, service delivery, and economic expansion within the county.
As the Machakos County boss, Governor Wavinya underscored her administration’s commitment to organized urbanization, noting that municipal status would unlock greater opportunities for infrastructure funding, improved governance frameworks, and enhanced public services.
“Following Cabinet review, the reports will be forwarded to the County Assembly for further consideration,” the Governor stated, reaffirming her administration’s adherence to due process and consultative leadership.
The conferment of municipal status is expected to strengthen urban management systems, attract investment, and create employment opportunities for thousands of residents. Under municipal structures, towns gain access to expanded planning authority, improved revenue management systems, and eligibility for national and international urban development support programs.
In a clear demonstration of her results-driven leadership style, Governor Wavinya also witnessed the signing of performance contracts by chairpersons and managers of municipal boards. The move signals a shift toward accountability and measurable service delivery in line with her administration’s governance standards
By institutionalizing performance contracts, the county leadership aims to ensure efficiency, transparency, and professionalism in the management of emerging municipalities reinforcing Machakos’ position as a model county in urban transformation.
Governor Wavinya expressed her sincere appreciation to the Ad Hoc Committee and the Department of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development for their dedication and meticulous work in preparing the reports.
The milestone marks another bold chapter in her broader vision to modernize Machakos County, positioning it as a competitive, investor-friendly, and well-planned region. Political observers note that under her stewardship, Machakos continues to steadily expand its urban footprint while prioritizing structured growth over unplanned expansion.
As the reports now await deliberation at the County Assembly, residents across the affected regions remain optimistic that the anticipated municipal status will usher in a new era of prosperity, improved infrastructure, and inclusive development all under the steady leadership of Governor Wavinya Ndeti.
