Waziri Generali Kimanga Graces Dowry Ceremony for derrick and purity in Machakos County

Kitui County Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development and the incoming Member of Parliament for Kitui West, Hon. Waziri Generali Fredrick Kimanga, on Saturday graced the traditional dowry ceremony of Derrick and Purity held at Kakunike Village in Kyua Katangi Ward, Machakos County.

The colourful cultural ceremony brought together elders, family members, friends, and local leaders from both families to witness and formalize the union through customary rites. Hon. Kimanga’s presence added honour to the occasion and highlighted the continued relevance of African traditions in strengthening family and community values.

Addressing the gathering, Waziri Generali Kimanga underscored the importance of marriage as a key pillar of society, noting that dowry ceremonies symbolize unity, respect, and the coming together of families. He encouraged the couple to build their marriage on mutual understanding, respect, and shared responsibility.

The ceremony was conducted in line with cultural customs, with elders leading the negotiations and offering guidance and blessings to the couple. Traditional songs, ululations, and the sharing of meals created a joyful atmosphere that reflected harmony and acceptance between the two families.

Residents of Kyua Katangi Ward welcomed the visit by the Kitui County minister, describing him as a leader who values culture and remains closely connected to grassroots communities. Many noted that his presence at social and cultural functions demonstrates humility and respect for the people.

As the ceremony drew to a close, Hon. Waziri Generali Kimanga congratulated Derrick and Purity and wished them a peaceful, successful, and prosperous married life. The event stood as a reminder of the enduring role of cultural heritage in fostering unity and social cohesion across communities.
