Four people have lost their lives and another is in critical condition following a tragic road accident along the Kibwezi–Kitui road in Makueni County on Saturday night.
Kibwezi Base Commander Morris Situma said the crash occurred at around 11 p.m., claiming three lives on the spot. Two other victims were rushed to Kibwezi AMREF Hospital for treatment, but one of them later succumbed to injuries. The remaining survivor is receiving medical care in serious condition.
According to Commander Situma, preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle was speeding when the driver lost control, causing it to roll several times. Among the deceased is a 10-year-old child.
The victims were reportedly returning from a dowry ceremony in preparation for a wedding scheduled for next Saturday. Police have launched further investigations into the incident.
