At least 61 students from across Kitui County benefited after Dr. Irene Kasalu launched the Grade 10–12 NGAAF Scholarship Initiative during a ceremony held at the Kitui Town Multipurpose Hall.
The initiative was launched with the aim of promoting access to education and offering financial support to vulnerable and needy students, many of whom faced the risk of dropping out of school due to school fees challenges.
Speaking during the launch, Dr. Kasalu noted that the scholarship programme was designed to ease the financial burden on families, allowing beneficiaries to fully concentrate on their academic work without the constant worry of fees arrears. She emphasized that education remained a critical pillar for community empowerment and sustainable development.
The scholarship targeted students in Grades 10 to 12, a crucial stage in their academic journey, with Dr. Kasalu observing that timely support at this level would significantly improve academic outcomes and nurture future leaders.
She further highlighted that investing in education was an investment in the future of Kitui County, adding that the initiative would help boost academic excellence while preparing a skilled and knowledgeable generation capable of driving local development.
Parents, students, and education stakeholders who attended the event welcomed the initiative, terming it a timely intervention that would transform lives and restore hope among disadvantaged learners across the county.
