Farmers across Machakos County are set for a major agricultural boost following the official launch of a countywide free seedling distribution program by Governor Wavinya Ndeti today at Kathaana in Kangundo West Ward.
The initiative, which will be rolled out across all eight sub-counties, signals a bold and coordinated step toward strengthening agricultural productivity, enhancing food security, and improving household incomes. Designed with farmers at its core, the program reflects the county government’s commitment to timely input support and strategic agricultural planning.

Speaking during the launch, Governor Wavinya reaffirmed her administration’s resolve to transform agriculture into a powerful engine of economic growth. She emphasized that food security is no longer a distant aspiration but a practical, achievable goal backed by deliberate action and sustained investment.

Under her visionary leadership, Machakos has already recorded remarkable progress. The county’s recent ranking as sixth nationally in maize production highlights the tangible impact of focused policies and farmer empowerment initiatives. With the free seedling program now underway, the administration is setting its sights even higher, positioning Machakos among Kenya’s top three maize-producing counties.

“This program is about empowering our farmers with the right resources at the right time,” the Governor noted. “When we support our farmers, we secure our food systems, grow our economy, and uplift our communities.”

The distribution exercise will ensure farmers across the county receive quality seedlings in time for the planting season, boosting yields and strengthening resilience against food shortages. Agricultural officers have been mobilized across all sub-counties to coordinate efficient and transparent distribution.

Today’s launch marks a significant milestone in Machakos’ agricultural transformation journey. It stands as clear evidence of results driven governance, where promises are translated into practical solutions that directly impact citizens’ lives.

As the seedlings make their way into farms across the county, the message from Kathaana is unmistakable: under Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s stewardship, Machakos is not only cultivating crops, it is cultivating prosperity.
