Governor Julius Malombe Champions Landmark Nzamba Kitonga Memorial Hospital Project to Boost Healthcare in Kitui East

Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has once again demonstrated his administration’s firm commitment to strengthening healthcare services in the county after holding high-level consultations with officials from the Ministry of Defence over the construction of the Late Nzamba Kitonga Memorial Hospital.

The Governor met top defence officials led by Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi, where discussions centered on the progress and implementation roadmap of the landmark health facility to be constructed in Mutitu, Kitui East Subcounty.

The meeting underscored Governor Malombe’s proactive leadership in fast-tracking the project, which is expected to significantly transform healthcare access in the vast and often underserved Kitui East region. Sources present at the meeting indicated that both parties reviewed technical plans, timelines, and logistical preparations to ensure smooth execution of the project.

It was agreed that a date would be settled next week for the official handover of the construction site, paving the way for the groundbreaking ceremony slated for later this month. The hospital, once complete, is expected to ease the burden on existing referral facilities, reduce patient travel distances, and enhance access to specialized medical care.

Governor Malombe has consistently prioritized healthcare as a cornerstone of his administration, pushing for improved infrastructure, staffing, and service delivery across county health facilities. The Nzamba Kitonga Memorial Hospital project aligns with his broader vision of building a robust and accessible healthcare system capable of serving the growing population.

Earlier, during a development tour of Kitui County, President William Ruto pledged national government support to ensure the hospital is completed, terming it a critical investment in the region’s health sector. The President’s assurance further cemented the collaborative effort between the county and national governments in delivering transformative projects.

With the site handover imminent, residents of Mutitu and the larger Kitui East Subcounty now look forward to a facility that not only honors the legacy of the late Nzamba Kitonga but also stands as a symbol of Governor Malombe’s unwavering resolve to prioritize the health and well-being of his people.
