Governor Wavinya Ndeti Strengthens Water Security and Rural Livelihoods Through Kwa Ndeto Dam Initiative.

Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to expanding access to sustainable water resources following an inspection of the Kwa Ndeto Dam in Kyaume. The inspection underscored the county government’s continued investment in water infrastructure as a catalyst for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and climate resilience. Since its development, Kwa Ndeto Dam has become a vital resource for residents by providing reliable water for both domestic use and irrigation, significantly enhancing agricultural productivity across Tala and neighbouring communities. The availability of water has enabled many farmers to engage in year-round vegetable farming, increasing household incomes while strengthening local food security. In addition to supporting agriculture, the dam has opened up new income-generating opportunities through fish harvesting, offering residents an alternative source of livelihood and contributing to the local economy.Speaking during the inspection, Governor Wavinya Ndeti  emphasized that access to clean and reliable water remains a cornerstone of her administration’s development agenda. She noted that investments in strategic water projects are not only addressing the immediate needs of communities but are also laying the foundation for sustainable economic development. To safeguard the long-term benefits of the project, the county government is set to implement additional measures aimed at protecting the dam and ensuring the sustainability of the water resource. The dam will be fenced to prevent encroachment and contamination, preserving the integrity of the water source. As part of the planned improvements, a dedicated water tank will be installed to supply clean water for domestic use, ensuring households have access to safe water. Livestock will be served through strategically placed external watering troughs, a measure designed to minimize contamination while promoting efficient and responsible use of the dam’s water. These interventions are expected to improve water quality, enhance environmental conservation and guarantee that the dam continues to benefit current and future generations. The Kwa Ndeto Dam project reflects Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s broader vision of building resilient communities through sustainable infrastructure. By investing in reliable water systems, the county government is empowering farmers, supporting local enterprises, strengthening food security, and improving the quality of life for thousands of residents. As Machakos County continues to prioritize sustainable development, projects such as Kwa Ndeto Dam stand as tangible examples of how strategic public investment can drive inclusive growth, protect natural resources, and create lasting prosperity for communities.ENDS///…
