Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reinforced her administration’s commitment to food security, economic empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods by advancing the Kwa Katiwa Earth Dam Value Addition Project in Kithongoni Sub Location, Kangundo West Ward.
During an inspection visit, the Governor presided over the stocking of additional fish fingerlings into the dam, a strategic intervention aimed at increasing fish production, strengthening aquaculture, and creating sustainable sources of food and income for local families. The initiative is expected to expand economic opportunities for residents while promoting nutrition and supporting the county’s blue economy agenda.
Beyond fish farming, the Kwa Katiwa Earth Dam has become a catalyst for agricultural transformation in the area. The reliable water source is enabling farmers to cultivate a wide range of high-value crops, including tomatoes, sukuma wiki, spinach, bananas, sugarcane, and sweet potatoes, boosting household incomes and improving food production throughout the year.
To further enhance agricultural productivity, the County Government of Machakos, under the leadership of Governor Wavinya Ndeti, has provided farmers with seeds, seedlings, and planting vines, empowering them to maximize the benefits of irrigation and increase farm yields.
The earth dam is also supplying dependable water for domestic use and livestock, easing the burden on residents while strengthening resilience against the effects of drought. The integrated project is improving livelihoods, supporting local enterprise, and stimulating economic growth across the community.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti reaffirmed that her administration remains focused on implementing practical, people-centred development projects that directly improve the lives of Machakos residents. She noted that the Kwa Katiwa Earth Dam Value Addition Project exemplifies her government’s vision of transforming water resources into engines of agricultural production, wealth creation, and community prosperity.
The project stands as another milestone in the Governor’s development agenda and a testament to the realization of her vision of “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni” by ensuring that families have food on their tables and more income in their pockets.
