ADRA Kenya Marks Final Day of 16 Days of Activism Against GBV in Ikutha and Kanyongongo, Kanyangi Ward

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Kenya on Wednesday made a powerful and unifying stand against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) after fully participating in the final day of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign held across Ikutha and Kanyongongo in Kanyangi Ward, Kitui South.

The event brought together community members, youth leaders, local administrators, and women’s groups to advance the message of ending all forms of violence within families and the community.

As part of its broader community empowerment agenda, ADRA Kenya also highlighted its ongoing Nature+ project, which works to achieve low-carbon, climate-resilient economies in rural areas of Kenya, aiming to improve the well-being of communities especially women, girls, and other vulnerable groups. The project’s integration into the GBV campaign emphasized that sustainable livelihoods, climate resilience, and gender equality must go hand in hand to build safer and more empowered rural communities.

Speaking during the activities in both Ikutha athi ward and Kanyongongo in Kanyangi Ward Hellen Kalisa , stressed the importance of combining education, economic empowerment, and awareness in the fight against GBV.

“Ending GBV requires informed communities, stronger support systems, and opportunities that uplift women and vulnerable groups. Through initiatives like Nature+, we are working not just to prevent violence, but to build resilient and dignified lives,” she said.

The day’s activities included sensitization forums, legal awareness sessions, counseling outreach, and testimonies from survivors. ADRA Kenya engaged youth and men’s groups as key partners in transforming harmful social norms and promoting a culture of respect, safety, and equality.

Local leaders praised ADRA Kenya for its consistent dedication to community welfare, noting that its dual approach addressing GBV while empowering communities through sustainable development projects like Nature+is crucial for long-term change.

The events in Ikutha and Kanyongongo brought the 2025 global campaign to a meaningful close, leaving residents more informed, more united, and better prepared to champion a society free from violence.

ADRA Kenya reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community resilience and safeguarding the rights and dignity of all individuals across Kitui County.
