Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has commissioned the Kaayo Kwa Mulungu Sumpwell Water Project, marking a significant milestone in the county’s efforts to expand access to clean and reliable water in Kitui West.
The transformative project, implemented under Governor Malombe’s administration, is set to benefit approximately 2,000 residents across Kwa Mulungu, Wayani, and Kalindilo areas, including several schools and public institutions.
The initiative underscores the governor’s unwavering commitment to addressing water scarcity and improving livelihoods in rural communities.
The Kaayo Kwa Mulungu project comprises a modern sump well, a high-capacity solar-powered pump, elevated storage tanks, distribution pipelines, water kiosks, and sanitation facilities. The integration of solar energy ensures sustainability and reduced operational costs, reflecting the county government’s focus on environmentally friendly and cost-effective solutions.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Malombe reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to expanding water infrastructure across the county. He noted that access to clean water remains a top priority in his development agenda, as it directly impacts health, education, and economic productivity.
“This project is a testament to our commitment to ensuring that every household has access to safe and reliable water. We will continue investing in sustainable water solutions to uplift our communities,” the governor said.
In addition to the Kaayo Kwa Mulungu initiative, the county government has successfully implemented the Kithumula Secondary School Borehole and the Kalindilo Borehole, which is currently supplementing the Masinga water supply system. These projects have significantly eased the burden on residents who previously had to travel long distances in search of water.
Further demonstrating steady progress in the water sector, Governor Malombe’s administration has achieved 65 percent completion of the Kwa Musyoka/Kwa Malonza earth dam desilting project. The county has also undertaken the Kalimbevo pipeline extension to enhance water distribution to more households.
Through these strategic interventions, Governor Malombe continues to solidify his administration’s legacy as one focused on service delivery, sustainable development, and improving the quality of life for the people of Kitui County.
