First Lady Anita Mutula Champions Youth Empowerment in Ukia Through Employability Skills Training

More than 300 youths from Ukia Ward converged for a transformative Employability Skills Training, a milestone event organized by the Anita Mbinya Foundation in partnership with BrighterMonday Kenya. The initiative seeks to bridge the widening gap between education and employment by equipping young people with relevant skills for the modern job market.

The training was presided over by Her Excellency Anita Mutula, the First Lady of Makueni County, who reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to championing youth empowerment across the region. In her keynote speech, Mrs. Mutula encouraged young people to seize such opportunities with dedication, urging them to cultivate a mindset of continuous learning and adaptability.

“Today’s job market is dynamic and demands more than just academic qualifications. We must equip our youth with the practical skills and confidence to navigate these spaces and thrive,” said the First Lady.

Participants were taken through intensive sessions on CV writing, interview preparation, digital skills, professional communication, and workplace etiquette  all designed to boost their employability and career readiness.

Also present at the event were County Assembly Members Hon. Urbanus Manzu (Kee Ward) and Hon. Jackson Ndolo (Ukia Ward), alongside county officials. The leaders lauded the initiative and pledged their support for similar programs to be implemented in other wards, noting the vital role such interventions play in tackling youth unemployment.

“This initiative is a beacon of hope. It is exactly what our young people need  practical, real-world guidance to transition from learning to earning,” said Hon. Ndolo.

The partnership between the Anita Mbinya Foundation and BrighterMonday Kenya demonstrates a deliberate, grassroots-led approach to addressing unemployment in Makueni. Organizers confirmed that plans are already underway to replicate the program in additional wards across the county.

With the success of the Ukia training, Makueni County continues to solidify its position as a leader in youth empowerment and sustainable community development.
