Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. Distributes 72 Water Tanks to Boost Clean Water Access in Nzaui/Kilili/Kalamba Ward

In a major stride towards improving water access in rural communities, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. on Tuesday led the distribution of 72 water tanks, each with a capacity of 10,000 litres, to residents of Nzaui/Kilili/Kalamba Ward.

Speaking during the flagging off ceremony, Governor Mutula underscored his administration’s commitment to enhancing last-mile water connectivity, terming access to clean and reliable water a fundamental right that his government is determined to realize across the county.

“These tanks will be instrumental in ensuring that every household has access to safe and sufficient water,” Governor Mutula said. “With this initiative, we are moving closer to achieving up to 90 percent water coverage in this ward alone.”

The 72 tanks are set to benefit 23 water schemes across the ward, including Isololo, Ng’oi, Kweleli, Kwa Wambua, Kwa Moto, Mandela, Kalima Kalato, Mulenyu, Mbilani, Kawala, Kilinga, Kisinzi, Mwanyani, Ithimani, Yanthooko, Malooni Demonstration Centre, Nduumonithi, Wikwatyo Ikangavya, Kyamusoi, Kikui, Kwa Mbiti, and Kaiani. The effort is expected to positively impact over 15,000 residents.

Governor Mutula further announced that the county will drill a new borehole within the Matiliku Sub-county Hospital using its own drilling rig. The borehole will ensure a reliable and continuous water supply for the facility, which serves thousands of patients from the larger Nzaui Sub-county.

“This borehole at Matiliku Hospital will not only serve the medical staff and patients but will also reinforce our broader agenda to strengthen health infrastructure through reliable utilities,” he noted.

The distribution is part of the governor’s broader plan to scale up climate-resilient water infrastructure amid changing weather patterns and increasing demand for clean water in arid and semi-arid parts of the county.

Residents, community leaders, and water management committees welcomed the initiative, lauding Governor Mutula’s commitment to delivering practical, life-changing services that directly touch the lives of ordinary citizens.

The county government continues to prioritize water access, agriculture, and health as foundational pillars of its development agenda.
