In a bold move to bring healthcare closer to the people, Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has commissioned the newly completed Gatoroni Dispensary in Tharaka Ward, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to accessible and quality medical services under the Kitui Promise manifesto.
Addressing residents during the commissioning, Governor Malombe said, “No resident should walk long distances to access basic healthcare. Every village deserves a health facility. This dispensary is a step towards that vision.” His words resonated with the crowd, highlighting the county government’s prioritization of health as a key pillar of development.
The Gatoroni Dispensary expands Kitui County’s already robust health network, which now includes 326 public health facilities, with 260 dispensaries forming the backbone of primary healthcare. Governor Malombe emphasized that his administration goes beyond construction ensuring these facilities are equipped with essential medical equipment, adequate drugs, and trained health personnel to deliver quality care.
Chief Officer for Public Health, Lynn Kitwan, lauded the facility, noting that it will significantly reduce the long distances residents of Kanyengya and surrounding villages previously had to travel for healthcare, particularly benefiting expectant mothers, children, and the elderly.
Residents hailed the dispensary as a major relief that will save transport costs and improve timely access to medical services.
The commissioning of Gatoroni Dispensary underscores Governor Malombe’s unwavering focus on healthcare, bringing vital services closer to the people and advancing the county’s universal health coverage goals. Under his leadership, Kitui County continues to demonstrate that development is measured not only by infrastructure
