Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has stepped up efforts to improve access to quality healthcare in the county after inspecting the ongoing expansion works at Mitaboni Level 3 Health Centre, where new facilities are being developed to enhance diagnostic, surgical and inpatient services.
During the inspection, Governor Ndeti assessed the progress of the new X-ray and ultrasound unit, main theatre, as well as the male and female wards. The expansion is expected to bring essential diagnostic and surgical services closer to residents, while increasing the facility’s capacity to admit and manage patients.
The Governor said the investment was part of her administration’s continued commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring residents can access essential medical services closer to home. The expanded facility will also help reduce unnecessary referrals to higher-level hospitals by enabling more services to be offered at Mitaboni.
Mitaboni Level 3 Health Centre currently serves about 30,000 residents and attended to more than 45,000 patients last year. Once completed, the ongoing expansion will further enhance the facility’s role in serving residents of Mitaboni and neighbouring communities, while supporting Governor Ndeti’s agenda of putting accessible and quality healthcare at the centre of people focused development in Machakos County.
