The County Government of Machakos County has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to strengthening Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE), with Governor Wavinya Ndeti intensifying efforts to enhance governance, standards, and service delivery across all ECDE centres.

This came as Members of the National Early Childhood Education Committee (NECEC) underwent a comprehensive sensitization session aimed at sharpening their understanding of their critical roles in advancing quality early learning. The session reflected Governor Ndeti’s broader education agenda, which prioritizes a strong foundation for young learners as a key driver of long-term academic success and sustainable development in the county.

The sensitization was led by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Youth, ECDE, Vocational and Skills Training, Dr. Consolata Mutisya, who emphasized the importance of effective leadership, accountability, and coordinated action in transforming early childhood education. She reiterated that the Governor’s administration remains firmly focused on ensuring ECDE structures operate efficiently and deliver measurable impact to children and families across the county.

Dr. Mutisya highlighted the need to strengthen ECDE management systems, foster seamless collaboration among stakeholders, and uphold high quality standards. She also stressed the importance of safeguarding child welfare and promoting inclusive education to ensure that children with special needs receive timely care, specialized support, and equal learning opportunities.

Among those in attendance were Chief Officer for ECDE Bernice Kioko, ECDE Director Jonathan Makau, and representatives from Special Needs Education (SNE), the Directorate of Quality Assurance and Standards, the Kenya National Examinations Council, and the Kenya Early Childhood Education Private Institutions Association.

The engagement reaffirmed Governor Ndeti’s commitment to strengthening governance within the ECDE sector, improving standards, and ensuring that every child in Machakos County—regardless of background or ability—receives a solid foundation for lifelong learning.
