In a significant development following tense negotiations, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has successfully secured a 30-day extension for residents of disputed Njuguini settlement in Mavoko. This comes after a high-level meeting held yesterday with Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) Chair, Major General (Rtd) Jattani Gulla, at the Governor’s White House office.
The reprieve was officially announced today, 22nd May 2025, just as the initial 14-day eviction notice expired—offering temporary relief to hundreds of families facing imminent displacement.
Sources close to the talks described the meeting as “high voltage,” underscoring the intensity and urgency of the discussions. The outcome marks a pivotal shift toward collaboration between the Machakos County Government and the KMC, as both parties seek a more sustainable resolution to the long-standing land dispute.
Governor Wavinya’s firm but diplomatic approach appears to have been instrumental in diffusing tensions and winning valuable time for the affected community.
