In a groundbreaking medical milestone, the Makueni Referral Hospital has successfully performed its first-ever brain surgery, marking a new chapter in healthcare for the region.
The surgery was carried out on a 69-year-old woman who was experiencing severe neurological issues. The operation took place early in the morning, and was conducted without complications.
This historic achievement not only highlights the growing medical capacity of the county but also offers new hope for residents who previously had to travel long distances to access specialized care. Such procedures were once thought impossible within the county due to the lack of advanced neurosurgical facilities.
The complex operation was led by Consultant Neurosurgeon Dr. Muthoka Mativo, in collaboration with Dr. Angela Murunga. Their expertise and coordination played a vital role in the successful outcome of the surgery.
This success story is expected to pave the way for more advanced surgical operations at the facility and bolster confidence in the local healthcare system.
