A storm is brewing in the Kitui County Assembly as Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have vowed to oust Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya, whom they accuse of being a major stumbling block to development projects in the county.
Speaking today at Miambani Ward during International Women’s Day celebrations, the MCAs reaffirmed their commitment to impeach the embattled Speaker, whom they labeled as greedy, a pretender, and an obstacle to progress. More than 45 MCAs have already appended their signatures to the motion, signaling a decisive battle ahead.
Led by vocal ward representatives, the MCAs expressed their frustration, alleging that Speaker Kinengo’s leadership has continuously hindered county development initiatives. They accused him of prioritizing personal interests over service delivery, leading to delays in critical government projects meant to benefit Kitui residents.
“The time has come for us to take home this greedy and pretentious Speaker. He has failed the people of Kitui, and we will not allow him to continue holding the county hostage. Over 45 of us have already signed the impeachment motion, and we are determined to see it through,” declared one MCA amid cheers from the gathered crowd.
The leaders further emphasized that their decision to remove Kinengo is not personal but driven by the urgent need to restore efficiency and accountability in the county’s governance.
According to the MCAs, the Speaker’s leadership has been marred by persistent wrangles that have paralyzed key government operations. They claimed that several development projects, including infrastructure improvements, health services, and water provision, have been delayed due to unnecessary conflicts orchestrated under his watch.
“Kitui County cannot afford to stagnate because of one individual. The people elected us to serve them, not to engage in endless political theatrics. The impeachment motion is our only way to unlock development,” another MCA added.
With more than 45 MCAs backing the impeachment, Kinengo’s fate now lies in the hands of the Assembly. According to county government procedures, the motion will be tabled and debated before a vote is taken. If successful, the Speaker will be removed from office, paving the way for new leadership.
However, Kinengo has remained defiant, insisting that he is a victim of political witch-hunt. He has previously dismissed calls for his removal as baseless, arguing that his leadership is anchored on integrity and service to the people.
As the battle lines are drawn, all eyes are now on the Kitui County Assembly to see whether the MCAs will make good on their threats and send Speaker Kinengo packing.
This impeachment push adds to the growing political tensions in Kitui, with residents eagerly waiting to see whether their leaders will prioritize service delivery or continue engaging in power struggles.
