Kitui Deputy Speaker Nzilu Nzioka Expands Desk Donation Initiative Beyond Kyangwithya West

The Deputy Speaker of the Kitui County Assembly and Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kyangwithya West Ward, Hon. Christopher Nzilu Nzioka, has expanded his education support initiative beyond his ward to cover schools across Kitui Central Sub-County, demonstrating his commitment to improving learning conditions for all children.

On Monday, Hon. Nzilu donated 20 learning desks to Ithiani Primary School, responding to a shortage that had left many pupils without adequate seating due to enrolment numbers surpassing available learning tables.

Speaking during the handover, the Deputy Speaker said the initiative was informed by challenges he observed in public schools, where the number of learners continues to grow while learning facilities remain insufficient.

“When learners are more than the available learning tables, it negatively affects concentration and performance. A good learning atmosphere helps a child grow well, but in a poor environment, a child’s mind may not develop to its full potential,” said Hon. Nzilu.

He clarified that the desk donation programme is not limited to Kyangwithya West Ward but also extends to Kitui Central, noting that education development should not be restricted by administrative boundaries.

Hon. Nzilu reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education as a foundation for long-term development, adding that his office will continue partnering with school administrations, parents and education stakeholders to ensure pupils learn in a dignified and supportive environment.

Teachers and school management at Ithiani Primary School welcomed the donation, describing it as timely and impactful. Parents and local leaders lauded the Deputy Speaker for responding directly to grassroots needs and for prioritising the welfare of learners.

The MCA said the initiative will continue in more schools as part of his broader agenda to promote quality education, equity and inclusive development across Kitui County.
