Machakos County joined the rest of the world in observing Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026 with a strong call for dignity, awareness, and equal access to menstrual health services under the global theme, “#PeriodFriendlyWorld.”
Under the leadership of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, EGH, the County Government of Machakos, through the Department of Health, organized free integrated medical outreaches in all the nine sub-counties to bring healthcare services closer to the people and promote menstrual health awareness across communities.
The outreach programme attracted residents from different parts of the county who benefited from a wide range of healthcare services, including medical screening, treatment, health education, reproductive health counselling, and other essential primary healthcare services.
The initiative highlighted the county administration’s commitment to preventive healthcare and community empowerment through public health education. Health personnel used the platform to sensitize residents on proper menstrual hygiene management, reproductive wellness, nutrition, and the importance of seeking early medical attention.
The county government emphasized that menstrual health remains a critical aspect of public health and social development, especially for girls and women who continue to face challenges related to stigma, inadequate information, and limited access to sanitary support and healthcare services.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s administration has consistently prioritized accessible and people centered healthcare programmes aimed at improving the well-being of residents across Machakos County. The Menstrual Hygiene Day activities demonstrated the county’s continued efforts to strengthen grassroots healthcare delivery while fostering a more informed and healthy society.
The countywide outreach also reflected the broader development agenda of “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni,” which focuses on improving livelihoods through better healthcare services, social empowerment, and sustainable community development initiatives.
As global conversations on menstrual dignity and women’s health continue to grow, Machakos County has reaffirmed its commitment to creating safer, healthier, and more inclusive communities where every girl and woman can manage menstruation with dignity and confidence.
