‎Makueni First Lady Anita Mutula Strengthens Mbooni Hospital with Major Equipment Donation as Eye Camp Restores Sight to Hundreds

Anita Mutula has strengthened healthcare services in Makueni County after donating critical medical equipment to support the operationalization of the newly constructed emergency and family block at Mbooni Sub County Hospital.The donation was made on Thursday, March 12, 2026, during a visit to the hospital in Mbooni Sub County.

‎Through the Anita Mbinya Foundation, the First Lady delivered 50 fully dressed hospital beds, 50 bedside cabinets, 25 baby cots and hospital curtains to help prepare the facility ahead of its commissioning.Mutula said the support is part of her foundation’s broader commitment to strengthening healthcare services and ensuring residents have access to quality medical care closer to home.“This support will help the hospital prepare to receive patients as the county government continues final preparations to make the facility fully operational,” she said.

‎During the visit, the First Lady also inspected a free eye screening camp taking place at the hospital. The outreach was organized by her foundation in partnership with the Makueni County Government, Klear Eye Africa and the Kenya Society for the Blind.The camp has served hundreds of residents through eye examinations and the distribution of prescription glasses. Medical teams have also conducted at least 80 cataract surgeries to restore sight for patients suffering from vision impairmentOrganizers are targeting about 150 cataract surgeries before the camp concludes on Friday. The outreach also includes free blood pressure and blood sugar screening for residents.Joyce Mutua, the County Executive Committee Member for Health, thanked the First Lady and her foundation for supporting the initiative Mutua said the county government plans to establish a dedicated eye unit at Mbooni Sub County Hospital to expand access to specialized eye care services.She added that the county is continuing to equip the new hospital block, including completing electrification works and allocating funds in the county budget to ensure the facility becomes fully operational.ENDS///…
