Makueni County Governor, Hon. Mutula Kilonzo Jr., popularly known as The Super Governor, has officially flagged off the county’s sports team that will represent Makueni at the upcoming County Games to be held in Homa Bay County.

In a colorful and high-spirited ceremony held at the county headquarters in Wote, Governor Mutula expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to bring glory home. He praised the athletes for their commitment, discipline, and relentless effort during training, urging them to fly the Makueni flag high and embody the spirit of unity, resilience, and excellence.

“This is more than just sports. It is about showcasing the strength, talent, and determination of our people,” Governor Mutula said. “You carry the dreams of every Makueni resident. Go out there, give your best, and make us proud.”

The event was graced by key county dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Makueni County Assembly, Hon. Douglas Mbilu, who lauded the initiative for promoting talent and cohesion across counties. He emphasized the role of sports in not only building character and health but also in uniting communities and fostering regional collaboration.

“Our athletes are ambassadors of Makueni. They carry with them the culture, dignity, and aspirations of our county,” said Hon. Mbilu. “We are behind them all the way.”

Also in attendance were County Executive Committee Members, Members of the County Assembly, representatives from the Department of Sports, and families of the athletes. The atmosphere was electric with performances by local youth groups, choirs, and traditional dancers, giving the event a festive touch.

The Makueni team will be competing in various disciplines including athletics, football, volleyball, and netball, among others. Coaches and team captains expressed optimism, citing intensive preparation and high morale among the participants.

As the team heads to Homa Bay, expectations are high that they will not only compete but dominate in the games, further cementing Makueni’s growing reputation as a powerhouse in county-level sports.

Governor Mutula concluded the ceremony by personally handing over the county flag to the team captain, symbolizing the official mandate and blessings of the county.
