Governor Wavinya Ndeti declared that poultry farming had emerged as one of the most transformative economic empowerment programs in the county, revealing that her administration had distributed 256,000 chicks to organized groups across all wards.
Delivering her State of the County Address at the County Assembly chambers, the Governor underscored that the initiative was deliberately designed to uplift households, particularly women, by providing a reliable and fast source of income.
“We knew poultry farming was the quickest way to put money in mothers’ purses,” she said, emphasizing that the program targeted grassroots economic empowerment. “These are not just birds; they are economic agents.”
Governor Wavinya noted that data collected by the county government showed the beneficiaries had collectively produced 43.3 million eggs since the program’s rollout. The production, she revealed, had translated into more than Ksh 600 million in income, directly benefiting families and stimulating the local economy.
She explained that beyond improving household incomes, the poultry initiative had strengthened food security, created market linkages, and enhanced financial independence among women and youth groups.
The Governor framed the program as a practical and results-driven approach to fighting poverty, stating that sustainable economic empowerment remained at the core of her administration’s development agenda.
“This is how we defeat poverty in our county,” she affirmed, adding that her government would continue investing in high-impact, people-centered projects aimed at transforming livelihoods and building a resilient local economy.
Her address painted a picture of a county steadily shifting from dependency to productivity, with agriculture and agribusiness playing a central role in driving inclusive growth.
