Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has intensified efforts to improve water access and agricultural productivity following an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation of Kitangani Earth Dam in Masinga Central Ward. The project involves desilting and expanding the dam to increase its water storage capacity to 25,611 cubic metres, alongside installing an improved water intake system fitted with a silt trap to minimise siltation and ensure long term sustainability. Once completed, the project is expected to benefit more than 600 households through reliable water for domestic use, livestock and farming activities.
Beyond improving water access, the project will include designated livestock watering points, irrigation infrastructure and fish stocking to promote fish farming and create additional income opportunities for residents. Governor Wavinya also acknowledged Concern Worldwide for partnering with her administration in implementing the project and supporting local farmers with sweet Irish potato vines to diversify agricultural production, strengthen food security and improve household incomes. She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to investing in sustainable water and agricultural initiatives that improve livelihoods and create economic opportunities across Machakos County.
