Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to food security, climate resilience, and sustainable agricultural development following the successful restoration of Kyeleni Earth Dam through comprehensive desilting works.
The restored earth dam is now providing a reliable source of water for irrigation, livestock, domestic use, and fish farming, bringing renewed hope to farmers and residents in the area. The improved water availability is also supporting the cultivation of high value crops, including pyrethrum, enabling farmers to increase productivity and diversify their sources of income.
The rehabilitation of Kyeleni Earth Dam underscores Governor Wavinya’s continued investment in strategic water infrastructure to unlock Machakos County’s agricultural potential, strengthen resilience against the effects of climate change, and improve livelihoods. By expanding access to water, the county is creating an enabling environment for year-round farming and sustainable economic growth.
The project is part of the Governor’s broader development agenda aimed at transforming agriculture and empowering communities through practical, high impact interventions. It reflects the county government’s unwavering commitment to delivering on Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s vision of “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni,”
