Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s Water Agenda Nears Major Milestone as Mwala Cluster Water Supply Project Reaches 97% Completion.

Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s commitment to expanding access to clean and reliable water across Machakos County continues to bear fruit, with the Mwala Cluster Water Supply Project now 97 percent complete. The Governor on Wednesday began her development tour of Matungulu Sub County with an inspection of the project’s intake works at Kisekini, reaffirming her administration’s determination to deliver sustainable water solutions that improve livelihoods, enhance public health, and drive socio-economic development. The transformative project was initiated following a proposal by the County Government of Machakos and is being implemented by the Tana Athi Water Works Development Agency. Once completed, the County Government, through the Mwala Water and Sanitation Company (MWASCO), will oversee the distribution of treated water to thousands of residents across the project area.Upon completion, the Mwala Cluster Water Supply Project will produce 6,600 cubic metres of treated water every day, significantly strengthening the existing water supply network serving Mbiuni, Kyeleni, Mwala, Masii, Matungulu and the surrounding areas.More than 100,000 households in Mwala and Matungulu sub-counties are expected to benefit from the project, marking a major milestone in Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s broader agenda of ensuring every resident has access to safe, affordable, and dependable water services.Speaking during the inspection, Governor Wavinya reiterated that access to clean water remains one of her administration’s top development priorities, noting that investments in water infrastructure are essential for improving the quality of life, supporting agriculture, promoting business growth, and fostering sustainable development. The Governor emphasized that her administration will continue working closely with national government agencies and development partners to fast-track strategic infrastructure projects that address the needs of Machakos residents. With the project in its final phase, residents can look forward to a reliable and expanded water supply that will reduce the burden of water scarcity while unlocking new economic opportunities for communities across the two sub counties. The inspection marks the beginning of Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s development tour of Matungulu Sub-County, during which she is expected to assess the progress of key development initiatives aimed at transforming livelihoods and accelerating inclusive growth across Machakos County.ENDS///…
