Residents of Mwaathe in Lower Kituti and Kamina in Upper Kituti, Athi Ward, overwhelmingly endorsed Chief Officer Gladys “Mami” Kivoto as their preferred candidate for the Kitui South parliamentary seat in 2027.
The declaration was made when Kivoto attended a church service at AIC Mukameni before meeting hundreds of residents who openly expressed confidence in her leadership. They cited years of poor representation and stalled development, saying the constituency needed a responsive and development-driven leader.
In Kamina, she received a similarly warm welcome, with residents affirming she was their undisputed choice. Women leaders particularly praised her humility and commitment to empowerment after she shared lessos with mothers in a symbolic gesture of respect and inclusion.
Currently serving as Chief Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Kitui County, Kivoto was credited for spearheading impactful programs, including construction of earth dams, promotion of climate-smart agriculture, and farmer empowerment initiatives that have improved livelihoods in Kitui South.
Although she has not officially declared her bid, residents maintained that she remained the people’s choice, signaling a growing grassroots wave ahead of the 2027 General Election.
